On Friday, October 12, 2018, Valencia High School (VHS) hosted their fourth annual AVID barbecue tailgate party for over 300 Valencia, Kraemer Middle School, and Valadez Middle School Academy AVID students, families, and staff members. The event took place before their football game versus Kennedy High School.
While the night ended with an exciting lightning show instead of the scheduled football game, students and families were treated to games, food, and were taught Tiger chants by VHS cheerleaders.
“Valencia is grateful for the strong partnership with Kraemer Middle School, Valadez Middle School Academy, and the District,” Principal Olivia Yaung said.
The purpose of the annual tailgate is to build upon the connection between the three AVID programs and motivate the students to stay focused on their goal of attending a college or university after Valencia.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other post-secondary opportunities, especially those traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
