Meghann Brigg’s preschool class at Mabel Paine Elementary School had a special visit from the Orange County Fire Authority this past week. Fire Education Specialist Christy Watson read a story about what to do if there is a fire in your house. The preschoolers learned to “stay low to the ground and go outside,” and to never go back into a burning building to retrieve toys. You can always get new toys, but there is only one of you, and you cannot be replaced! Christy also taught the students how to make sure they have functioning smoke detectors in their houses, and reminded them that the number they call in case of emergency is 9-1-1. A few of the students even got to try on the heavy firefighter uniforms. It was a great day, and a perfect time to teach the students about fire safety.
