On Wednesday November 6, Van Buren Elementary School had the privilege of hosting a group of international professors to see their campus in Placentia.
Thanks to California State University, Fullerton professors Erica Howell, Dr. Melinda Pierson, and Dr. Janice Myck-Wayne, nine professors representing Germany, Spain, Bulgaria, Japan, Australia, and China came to see American education in action.
They were welcomed by Van Buren teachers Veronica Gomez, Lyn Chadez, and Kim Voge to observe the progressive programs found in PYLUSD classrooms. The scholars were so impressed with a number of things including the way technology was incorporated into classrooms, the use of positive behavior supports in instructional lessons and school wide, engaged learning, student choice making opportunities, and more.
The final presentation spoke to the wide demographics that Van Buren educators work with, the gains that students made, and how data is used to tailor school wide goals.
“It was inspiring to see such a cohesive and clear plan for the school,” Principal Connie Roe shared. “What a privilege it was to share the outstanding work and success of the Van Buren team with this international audience!”
