In recognition of World Ocean Day, Tuffree Middle School students were recently featured in the Los Angeles Times. Students participated in the Marine Protected Area Science Citizen Cruise by conducting current scientific research inside the Crystal Cove State Marine Conservation Area. They collected water samples, identified plankton and fish, and observed the kelp forest below. On their cruise, they were excited to be greeted by a pod of around 500 dolphins! This hands-on experience allowed students to better understand the marine ecosystem and the work conducted by scientists to ensure the health of oceans.
