Board of Education Recognizes High School Head Football Coaches

High School head football coach recognition.

At the Tuesday, December 12, Board of Education meeting, Trustees set aside time to recognize the head football coaches from all four comprehensive high schools. This included Zack LaMonda from El Dorado, Jason Presley from Esperanza, Jason Gray from Valencia, and Jeff Bailey from Yorba Linda. All four coaches recently concluded successful seasons coaching hundreds of PYLUSD student-athletes.

“The role of a head football coach is multifaceted and extends beyond simply teaching the game of football. In fact, the responsibilities of a head football coach include everything from game planning, player development, leadership and mentorship, motivation and inspiration, and academic support to character development, game management, community engagement, and recruitment and college placement,” Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss shared. “In short, a head football coach is not just a strategist on the field; they are educators, mentors, and leaders who contribute to the overall development of student-athletes. The impact of the four gentlemen you see before you often extends far beyond the scores and statistics, shaping the character and future success of the PYLUSD students under their care.”

Dr. Cherniss took the time to share about each individual coach, talking about their seasons and, more importantly, their positive impact on students. Each coach received a PYLUSD Challenge Coin, which represents unity among members of organizations, units, and teams.

“We hope you know that your commitment to excellence and outstanding leadership on and off the field does not go unnoticed,” Dr. Cherniss noted. “Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition, and here’s to the continued success of our high school football programs, and the bright futures you are all helping to shape.”

Thank you Coaches Presley, Gray, Bailey, and LaMonda for all of your hard work on behalf of PYLUSD football players and programs!

Recognition.
