Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Occupational Therapist Annie Musser works with a student at Mabel Paine Elementary School who has weak muscles and uses a wheelchair for mobility. She recently recognized that the student needed wrist splints to assist with navigating an iPad and writing simple words. She was able to locate a wrist splint for his right wrist; however a comparable left wrist splint was no where to be found.

Annie reached out to her colleague Jeanette Laakso at Valencia High School for help. Jeannette put Annie in touch with James Kirwan, Valencia High School teacher and robotics class instructor who has access to a 3D printer. Mr. Kirwan jumped in to help the student in need. Within a week, the splint was made for the student’s left wrist.

“I am very grateful to Jeanette, Mr. Kirwan, and his students for making this happen,” Annie shared. “They made a difference by helping my student access his educational curriculum.”
