The El Dorado High School Theatre Department’s fall play, The Book of Dog, was recently awarded second place for the Orange County area in the California Educational Theater Association’s annual play competition.

Three professional adjudicators attended shows throughout the region and selected the top plays to be honored at a festival in January. The adjudicators selected the entire cast and every student designer to receive certificates of merit for their work.

Prop Designer JD Cavalluzzi and actor Blake Schalliol were selected by their director, Mrs. Switzer, to  receive director’s awards for their contributions to the production. Owen Switzer was selected by an adjudicator to receive an adjudicator award, the highest award given at the competition, for his performance.

As second place winners, the cast was able to remount a short scene from the production at the festival in mid-January, which was adjudicated again by four professional guest judges. The judges selected Owen Switzer to receive one of two Outstanding Performance awards for his performance.

“The entire cast and crew are to be commended for putting on an incredible, heartwarming production that was a beautiful piece of storytelling,” shared theatre teacher Kathleen Switzer.
