Bryant Ranch Second Graders Travel Back in Time

Bryant Ranch School students at museum.

In January, the second graders of Bryant Ranch School visited the Heritage Museum in Santa Ana. This field trip goes along with the students’ social studies curriculum in learning about the past and how communities change over time.

According to teacher Elise Vermillion, the students had a blast touring the Kellogg House and looking in all of the rooms. They were able to play with an old organ and with old-fashioned toys. Many were fascinated by the Jacob’s ladder toy, a folk toy consisting of blocks of wood held together by strings or ribbons.

Upstairs, the students dressed up in old Victorian-era dresses and vests. Outside, they watched a blacksmith go through the process of making a nail. It was a fun day “traveling” back in time!
