On Tuesday, June 11, George Key School proudly held a commencement ceremony for their Class of 2024 graduates—Alfred Ghabbour and Mathew El-Khoury. The event took place in the multipurpose room at Golden Elementary School, where a gathering of fellow students, loved ones, and staff members came together to honor the achievements of these two remarkable students.
Principal Rebecca Allan began the ceremony by introducing the dignitaries in attendance and highlighting the unique contributions Alfred and Mathew have made during their time at George Key School. The list of honored guests included Board of Education Trustees Carrie Buck and Marilyn Anderson, Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District Assistant Superintendents Dr. Olivia Young, Gary Stine, and Renee Gray.
The highlight of the ceremony was a speech delivered by Gwen Redira, the district’s Director of Special Education. In her address, Redira offered words of encouragement and admiration for the graduates. “Every milestone you achieve, no matter how small it may seem to some, is a testament to your incredible determination and the dedication of those who support you,” she said. “You have learned to communicate in your own fashion. Your smiles and facial expressions are able to show how you feel about your daily activities. You have learned to make it known when you like someone and when you are not happy with what is going on. You show joy each day and bring joy to others. Today as we celebrate this milestone with you both, Alfred and Matty, we wish you the best as you move into this next exciting chapter of your lives. As you embark on this new journey, know that you carry with you the love, support, and admiration of everyone who is here today. Your strength, your courage, and your smiles remind us all of the limitless possibilities that exist within each and every one of us. Congratulations on being part of the class of 2024.”
Adding a personal touch to the ceremony, teacher Michele Cardenas spoke about each graduate, sharing anecdotes and fond memories. A heartfelt video presentation followed, showcasing pictures of Alfred and Mathew throughout their years at George Key School. This touching tribute highlighted their growth and the special moments they shared with their peers and teachers.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates of completion to Alfred and Mathew. The sense of pride and accomplishment in the room was palpable as attendees applauded the graduates. Following the formalities, everyone enjoyed a reception held in honor of the two young men, providing a moment to reflect on their achievements.
The George Key School community extends its heartfelt congratulations to Alfred Ghabbour and Mathew El-Khoury, celebrating their perseverance and success. The class of 2024 has shown that with determination and support, every challenge can be transformed into a milestone worth celebrating.
