El Dorado High School’s ED LAW Academy Hosts Annual Networking Mixer for Freshmen

Annual ED LAW Networking Mixer connects El Dorado students with local professionals

On Monday, October 14, El Dorado High School’s ED LAW Academy hosted its annual Networking Mixer Experience for freshmen students. During this event, community professionals, along with district and site personnel, volunteered their time to engage with students as they rotated among them, introducing themselves, exchanging business cards, and learning about various career paths. As part of their event preparation, the freshmen even created their own business cards.

ED LAW Coordinator Sunshine Cavalluzzi sought advice from former students and successful colleagues, asking what career or academic skills they wished they had learned earlier. A common theme that emerged was the importance of networking, which has since become a key focus of the program. Each fall, the academy dedicates time to teaching foundational networking skills, culminating in this mixer. During the event, ED LAW students practice introducing themselves and conversing with new people, enhancing their professional social skills.

This annual event provides students with the opportunity to build their soft skills and improve their career readiness, all while enjoying a meaningful and interactive experience. “This is one of the year’s favorite events,” shared Coordinator Sunshine Cavalluzzi. “It’s such a joyful occasion to see students take risks, build confidence, step outside their comfort zones, and grow—even within the hour. They get to experience firsthand the payoff of their preparation and realize just one more thing they’re capable of doing well. And it wouldn’t be possible without the time and enthusiasm of our volunteers.”
