Buena Vista Virtual Academy (BVVA) held its 5th annual graduation ceremony on Tuesday, June 10 at the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Performing Arts Center. In total, the school awarded 33 students their high school diplomas including 307 seniors and 3 juniors as early graduates.
To begin the ceremony, Principal Dominique Polchow welcomed those in attendance including BVVA students, staff, families, and distinguished guests such as Board of Education President Marilyn Anderson and Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Interim Assistant Superintendent, Administrative Services, Joan Velasco, and Executive Director of Elementary Education, Dr. Liz Leon.
Principal Polchow took time to share words of encouragement with the school’s graduating seniors. “Graduates, your journey has been anything but traditional. You chose a different path, a virtual independent study education and that choice required discipline, self-motivation, and a level of responsibility far beyond your years. Whether you’re heading to college, beginning a career, serving in the military, or exploring your next step, do it with integrity, passion, and courage. You didn’t just graduate—you proved that determination and purpose can break through any barrier.”
BVVA students London Herrera and Oleksandra Tkachenko then delivered student addresses in front of the energetic crowd of supporters. President Anderson then accepted the Class of 2025 as having met all the necessary requirements in order to earn their high school diplomas.
Notably, Buena Vista’s Class of 2025 includes five student who earned the Golden State Seal Merit and four who received the State Seal of Civic Engagement. Over 66% are headed to two or four-year colleges following graduation and one student has committed to join a branch of the military.
Buena Vista Virtual Academy is an online school that offers free 100% online and hybrid programs for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. BVVA is a supported independent study school perfect for students who want to learn on their own in a nurturing environment.
Congrats, BVVA Wolves!
