From October 17–19, two educators from Travis Ranch Middle School proudly represented the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) at the California Science Educators Conference in Palm Springs, California. The event brought together over 2,000 science educators and leaders from across the state to share innovative practices and advance excellence in science education.
Travis Ranch educator Cari Briggs led a workshop titled “Integrating AI in Science Education: A Guide for Responsible Classroom Use by Students.” The session drew a near standing-room-only audience of teachers and administrators eager to explore the possibilities of artificial intelligence in the classroom.
Briggs, along with co-presenter Ann Chen, highlighted how responsible and innovative use of AI is transforming instruction throughout PYLUSD. Their presentation focused on practical strategies for integrating AI tools to differentiate instruction, enhance engagement, and support learners at all levels of academic readiness—particularly English Language Learners. The educators credited El Dorado High School teacher Jennie Bremer as an inspiration for their work in this evolving field.
By demonstrating how AI can serve as a catalyst for critical thinking, creativity, and inclusion, Briggs and Chen exemplified PYLUSD’s leadership in adapting emerging technologies responsibly and effectively. Attendees left the session inspired by the district’s forward-thinking approach and its dedication to preparing students for success in an increasingly digital and interconnected world.
“We want educators to feel empowered to teach students that responsible AI use is possible,” the presenters shared. “It’s one thing to use AI to streamline teaching, but it’s another to show students how these tools can help them become stronger scholars.”
The presentation not only showcased Travis Ranch Middle School’s commitment to innovation and excellence but also reaffirmed PYLUSD’s district-wide mission to inspire, engage, and prepare all learners for the future.
