Valencia High School Junior Leads National Efforts to Raise Awareness for Misophonia

Valencia High School junior Sophie is making a remarkable impact beyond the classroom through her nonprofit organization, TEAM (TeenMiso), which raises awareness about misophonia, a rare condition that causes strong emotional reactions to certain sounds. Although misophonia can affect individuals of all ages, it most commonly develops during adolescence.

Sophie’s advocacy recently reached the national stage when she worked with Representative Young Kim of California’s 40th District and Representative Valerie Foushee of North Carolina’s 4th District to help pass a bipartisan resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives. This historic resolution officially recognizes World Misophonia Awareness Day, establishing federal support for continued research and public awareness of the condition.

In addition to her legislative success, Sophie and her organization were featured on Spectrum News, where she shared her personal story, her journey in founding TeenMiso, and her ongoing collaboration with Dr. Rosenthal, a key partner in the creation of World Misophonia Awareness Day.

Through her leadership and dedication, Sophie continues to amplify the voices of those affected by misophonia and inspire others to learn more about this under-recognized condition.
