This past weekend, district students in their respective school’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapters competed at the State Leadership Conference in Ontario. Over 2,000 high school students from across the state battled in different business-focused concentrations. The competition was fierce, but PYLUSD was fiercer!
Yorba Linda High School
Congrats to YLHS FBLA members Harshal Vaza and John State for placing second in the Marketing event. Harshal and John beat out over 30 teams all competing for a spot at the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Atlanta in June. Additionally, students Zach Co, Nick Ding and Sumesh Rawal won the Shark Tank workshop. Sumesh Rawal also competed in Client Services, and placed in the top 12 out of 40 students competing. This was an exciting and successful weekend for YLHS FBLA. Students are learning and succeeding. It’s a strong start for the new chapter.
Last but not least, YLHS business class students participated in a business and economics competition at California State University, Fullerton, on Saturday, April 16. Over 300 students were in attendance to compete in the various events, and so were YLHS students Christian Canzone, Wren Thomasson and Marie Tobias. Christian and his team placed first in the Stock Market Game event, beating out 2,500 teams! Congrats again!
Valencia High School
At the FBLA State Leadership Conference, junior Kevin Kim took home a third place award in the Job Interview event, while senior June Ho Park won third place in the Economics event. Both qualified for FBLA’s National Leadership Conference in Atlanta in June.
Notably, Kevin’s feedback was positively glowing – he was praised for being humble, as well as being a great leader. He averaged a 95/100 in the final round. Valencia’s FBLA students truly do a wonderful job representing the district!
Joy Millam and Natasha Ulibarri serve as advisors to Valencia’s FBLA chapter.
Thank you to all the educators that supported the YLHS and Valencia teams and sent them on their way to these competitions. It’s wonderful to read the accomplishments of these young people as they give up so much of their free time to pursue these challenging endeavors! I hope the PYLUSD high schools will bring these young people back for Career Days after they have graduated so that they can encourage the next group of high schoolers to pursue their dreams. Good job everyone!
