Following months of rehearsal, Bernardo Yorba Middle School’s Advanced Drama performed the hit Broadway musical, “Hairspray Jr.,” for student assemblies and evening shows on April 25 and 26.
Throughout the performance, audience members were tapping their toes to the upbeat song and dance of the Corny Collins Show, moved by the soulful vocals of Motormouth Maybelle, and uplifted by Tracy Turnblad’s fun rendition of hits such as “Welcome to the Sixties,” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat.”
The show had something for everyone and every drama student added to the magic that made it a smashing success! Bernardo Yorba students and parents alike appreciated the show’s humor as well as the lesson about integration and acceptance.
From building and painting sets, memorizing 12 scenes of songs and dialogue, and perfecting set changes, Hairspray Jr. was an unforgettable experience for the drama students and director, Mrs. Swarm.
