Bernardo Yorba students learn how to play the ukulele in newest club on campus

Under the direction of club adviser, Sherman Shen, Matadors have an opportunity to connect with others and learn a new instrument in Bernardo Yorba Middle School’s newest club, the Ukulele Club.

Students of all musical backgrounds have been meeting once a week at lunch since November to learn to play the ukulele.  It’s an easy instrument to pick up and learn; many people find it amazing how quickly someone can start playing popular songs.  Students find chords for their favorite song and often are playing by the time lunch ends.  Relaxing and rewarding, the Ukulele Club helps foster expression, collaboration, and creativity.

Another benefit of the club is that students get to see another side to their teachers as many of them join in the fun as well.  Together, students and teachers are both looking forward to performing in Bernardo Yorba’s annual talent show later in March.
