Entrepreneurial Expo at El Dorado High School helps students get down to business

El Dorado High School economics teacher Sunshine Cavalluzzi offers an informal Entrepreneurial Expo for Digital Media Arts Academy (DMAA) students. At the Expo, which has been taking place for over 10 years, students discuss business plans, as well as possible prototypes they’ve created for a business they could conceivably start with their existing skill set and less than $500 in startup costs.

The Entrepreneurial Expo is an alternative to just lecturing on economics and business. Along with developing a feasible business, students also plan out advertising, forecast a timeline for revenue and profitability, and identify risk factors that need to be addressed.

This year’s Entrepreneurial Expo took place on Monday, Nov. 16, and featured guests from the district. The students’ “pitches” represent weeks of hard work, ingenuity and effort. They always love the chance to showcase their work to others.
