Congratulations to the Kraemer Middle School Science Olympiad team for finishing 6th place in the National Tournament at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York!
The tournament took place May 31-June 1, and featured 60 of the top middle school Science Olympiad teams from across the nation. Each school year, there are thousands of middle school Science Olympiad teams that compete with hopes of making it to the National Tournament.
“It is a remarkable achievement for a team to finish so highly in their first trip to Nationals,” Principal Keith Carmona said.
Carmona also shared that the setting for the competition was very memorable for the Kraemer students.
“Cornell University, an Ivy League school, provided a picturesque and perfect backdrop for this experience. Here were our outstanding future scientists and engineers getting their first taste of an elite university, perhaps providing a glimpse into their own futures,” he stated.
Leading up to the competition on Saturday morning, Kraemer’s students remained focused by studying, taking practice tests, and testing out their constructions.
In addition to the 6th place finish overall, individually, Kraemer students placed in the top six in seven different events! As a result, they were awarded medals in front of nearly 5,000 students, parents, teachers, and coaches on Saturday, June 1.
“Shaun Evola, our incredibly dedicated Science Olympiad coach, is to be commended for his leadership,” shared Carmona. “He does an amazing job at not only preparing the students, but acting as a visionary leader, personal counselor, and all-around support for these kids.”
After their big win, Kraemer’s team celebrated with a trip to Niagara Falls.
Congratulations on this remarkable achievement, Cubs!
