Rio Vista Elementary and Valadez Middle School Partner for Annual AVID Family STEM Night

On April 24, Rio Vista Elementary School proudly hosted its annual AVID Family STEM Night, bringing together students, families, and staff for an evening of collaborative learning and exploration. The event featured a variety of hands-on STEM challenges designed to promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Activities included constructing the tallest tower using only plastic cups and creating the longest chain from strips of paper, all encouraging teamwork between students and their families.

The school expressed deep appreciation to its dedicated PTA volunteers, who prepared hundreds of materials bags to support the evening’s activities. Gratitude was also extended to Valadez Middle School for their partnership, which included sending student volunteers, sharing sample AVID binders, and attending the event to show support.

A highlight of the evening was a special recognition ceremony in honor of the late Jessica Ferrino, a beloved member of the Rio Vista community. Board President Marilyn Anderson presented a commemorative plaque to Ferrino’s family on behalf of the Anaheim City Council, which had previously adjourned a meeting in her memory.

The success of AVID Family STEM Night was a testament to the strong sense of community and shared commitment to student achievement that defines the Rio Vista Elementary School family.
