OCSCS Career Day Connects Students with Real-World Career Pathways

On February 18, the Orange County School of Computer Sciences (OCSCS) hosted Career Day, one of the school’s largest and most anticipated annual events. The event brought together a diverse group of community professionals who provided students with meaningful exposure to a wide range of career pathways.

Students engaged directly with presenters representing fields such as aviation, healthcare, law, construction, higher education, engineering, museum education, military service, fashion design, graphic design, and entrepreneurship. Throughout the sessions, students demonstrated strong engagement by asking thoughtful questions about educational requirements, daily responsibilities, and the skills necessary for success in each profession.

A highlight of the event was the school’s partnership with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD). Chief Pilot Deputy Garcia and Sergeant Arredondo landed the OCSD helicopter, Duke, on the school field, providing an unforgettable learning experience for students and staff. In addition, OCSD Captain Wigginton and School Resource Officer Deputy Lee coordinated presentations from the department’s bomb squad and crime lab teams, who spoke with multiple classes about careers in public safety and forensic science.

Career Day served as a powerful example of the impact of school–community partnerships. The event underscored the value of connecting students with industry professionals to expand career awareness and inspire future aspirations. The school expressed gratitude to all guest speakers and community partners for investing their time and expertise in support of student learning and future success.
