Yorba Linda High students make moving speeches at fourth annual “I Have A Dream” contest

Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., 16 Yorba Linda High School students gave three to five minute speeches where they advocated for a cause that they care deeply about in the fourth annual “I Have A Dream” Speech Contest on Thursday, June 2.

This special event was hosted by the YLHS Rotary Interact Club with support from the Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary, YLHS PTSA and social studies department. This is the culminating event for the social studies department where these students remind us that history, the present and the future is shaped by individuals that felt compelled to use their courage, their words and their convictions to leave the world a better place than how they found it.

The Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary donated scholarships to the following speakers:

  • First place $200 scholarship:
Aleeha Kalam – “Beyond The Number”
  • Second place $150 scholarship:
Heather Gammon – “Relevance of Feminism In Today’s World”
  • Third place $100 scholarship:
Roger Fang – “The Me Generation?”
