On Friday, Oct. 14, Glenknoll Elementary School third graders tested their engineering finesse by flying bats they made as part of a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) activity. First, students designed their paper “bat” planes by following specific parameters. Next, they tested their creations, making adjustments to improve flight distance. After writing about the process, the contest began! Congratulations to aeronautical engineers Alex Gavrilovic and Ethan Oizemi whose paper bats flew the farthest at 39 inches and 36 inches, respectively.
